My name is Mark Farrell, founder of Top Copy Editing Services. I have more than 20 years of copyediting and proofreading experience. I began my career as a reporter at a suburban daily newspaper in the Boston area in 1987. Within two years, I was assigned to the copyediting desk for a newspaper publishing chain near Cape Cod, Mass. After moving to the Washington, D.C., area in 1992, I began working as a newsletter editor in 1994 in Alexandria, Va., and from there as a copyeditor for a newspaper publishing group based in Merrifield, Va. Soon after, in 1997, I gained experience editing government contracts, which I continued to do on a freelance basis through 2006. Along the way I also served as a newsletter copyeditor. This year, I served as a contract editor for auditing reports with the U.S. Department of Commerce. The contract was 4 months in duration. I am proficient in using style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style, the Associated Press Stylebook, and the Government Printing Office Style Manual.
